Write Your Book Well
Write Your Book Well
I've edited manuscripts for people who wrote books in various genres, and while they were comfortable, quite familiar, and perhaps experts in their ideologies, their scope of writing was narrow. I could tell they hadn't put any research into the development of their book.
- Don't invest time in writing a book if you're not going to invest the time in researching your topic.
- Find out what other authors say about the same or a similar topic you are writing about by reading their work.
- The more you research a topic, the more you'll be able to speak intelligently about it.
- Research is what helps give your characters depth and dimension, as opposed to being flat and two-dimensional. For nonfiction writers, it gives your words substance and authority.
